“The Christian needs another Christian who speaks God’s Word to him. He needs him again and again when he becomes uncertain and discouraged, for by himself he cannot help himself without belying the truth. He needs his brother as a bearer and proclaimer of the divine word of salvation.” Dietrich Bonhoeffer
I need all the help I can get!
Thank you for the book suggestion! We have a huge group of Liberian refugees at our church who wear our deacons out, as you can imagine. I see them every Sunday in their beautiful bright headdresses and I often think, I have no clue what their story is. Can't wait to read this book and get some insight.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your blog. I have been hooked since reading the one "I Don't Want My Kids to be Happy." I have recommended it to lots of folks.
ReplyDeleteEven though we have never met, I feel like we are kindred souls. I have have been married 32 yrs. to a Norwegian (LOL-UFFDA!)and have two adopted sons, age 21 and 23 now. The oldest is Korean and the younger one is mixed race, black/caucasian/hispanic/Apace Indian. I read The House At Sugar Beach because I basically am pretty ignorant when it comes to other cultures and the youngest son is engaged to a Liberian gal. I have gotten to know her mom and have heard of her struggle first hand. After I read the book, I discussed it with her....that was really enlightening!
Love your writings!
